  6. Q: Why do you have a licensing scheme and enforce your licenses?
  7.  
  8.     A: We need to prevent unlimited free usage of our software,
  9.        because it is the only hope of making a living in selling
  10.        inexpensive, useful software. With this type of software, it
  11.        is common for potential customers to "forget" to register.
  12.        In an ideal world we would not have to restrict our
  13.        distribution.  In this one, our licensing mechanism
  14.        encourages a choice, after a reasonable trial period, on
  15.        whether you want to continue using the software or not.

  17.        Other shareware authors rely on nag screens ("nagware"),
  18.        limited demonstration versions ("crippleware") or other
  19.        (costly?) incentives (manuals, support, ...) to encourage
  20.        users to register. We believe these approaches are not in
  21.        your best interest, because they are annoying, do not allow
  22.        you to fully explore the product before paying, or cost you
  23.        more.

  25.        With our no-nonsense approach, you get the fully functional
  26.        product before you lay out a penny. In fact, the registered
  27.        version and the software you have in your hands are
  28.        identical, except for the license key, which we will issue to
  29.        you upon payment.  You pay only for what you already have,
  30.        nothing more, nothing less.

  32.        Still, any shareware approach is much better than the
  33.        traditional retail approach, where you cannot even try out
  34.        any of the software before paying.

  38. Q: It is cumbersome to fill out the registration form, and to plug in
  39.    the license key. Isn't there an easier way?
  40.  
  41.        A: We're sorry, it is the only way for us to continue developing
  42.           low-cost software for a living. We expect that the 5-10
  43.           minutes you take to fill out the registration form, write out
  44.           a check, and mail the registration, and upon receipt of the
  45.           new license key, to replace the evaluation license, will pale
  46.           against the amount of time saved and grief spared when using
  47.           our tools.

  51. Q: Do I need to buy the optional floppy?
  52.  
  53.     A: No. Upon payment, we will e-mail (or postal mail) you the
  54.        license key to be able to continue using the product. The
  55.        included instructions will ask you to use a text editor to
  56.        cut and paste the license key into the software that you
  57.        already have.

  59.        The optional floppy will give you the latest version of the
  60.        product. Even though our license comes with free limited
  61.        upgrades (that is, if you download a newer version of the
  62.        product, it will continue to work with the license key you
  63.        have, and you will not need to reregister), this may be worth
  64.        it if the version you have is several months old. If there is
  65.        no later version than the one you are registering for, we
  66.        will wait with the floppy until the next version is released.
  67.        In addition, it will already contain the license key issued
  68.        to you, and will include evaluation copies of our other
  69.        products, saving you the cost and time of downloading.
